Last week a packet of about 80 letters completed its journey from Haiti to its final destination in Seattle. We were able to finally wrap up the 2019/20 pen pal exchange after several delays caused by the 2019 protests and COVID-19.

We want to give a big thank you to Ms. Polda’s class in Seattle for participating! Thank you for writing to our students. We hope your love of the French language grows each day–you do practice every day, don’t you? đŸ˜‰

At CRDF, we’ve found that cross cultural pen pal exchanges teach both groups of students several important life lessons:

  1. The importance of language, either becoming literate in your own, or by learning a foreign language.
  2. That it’s possible to connect with people in another country, and more than possible, it’s essential to learn about other cultures.
  3. That kids all across the world are just the same as you–they doodle on their paper, and have siblings and pets, and care about new friends.

Thanks again to everyone who participated or helped with the exchange.
