In the past few months, we have made some very exciting progress in Caneille. We were able to secure the necessary funds to begin construction of our first permanent classroom. This progress will alleviate the overcrowded nature of our current temporary shelter and obtain the government recognition necessary for our students to continue beyond primary school. The final step in the construction process is to obtain funding for the purchase and installation of a metal sheet roof for the building.

In order to complete the construction and finish out this school year, our fundraising goal for May and June is set at $3,000. This goal will not be easy, but it is definitely attainable.

To help us reach this goal, we are planning several fundraisers. The first fundraiser is a Caneille Rummage Sale on May 8-9, 2009. If you are in Northeast Wisconsin and have items for the rummage sale, please e-mail for instructions on how to donate. In the past, rummage sales have been a remarkably successful way to raise funds and awareness of our project.

During our trips to Haiti, it is always exciting to learn more about the people who are impacted by our work. In an effort to share this experience with you, we have created a student sponsorship program.  This program allows our supporters the opportunity to designate their donations to sponsor a student or multiple students. For a monthly donation of $15 (or yearly donation of $180), you can sponsor a student. As a participant, you will receive an information card about the student and receive periodic updates on their progress. Through the sponsorship program, it is our hope that supporters will feel a greater connection to the children whose lives have been impacted by your generosity.

Please e-mail me at any time if you would like more information about fundraising, the sponsorship program or the work in Haiti.
